Issues that face the City of Las Vegas:

Steve SansonDevelopment: and redevelopment. I will work diligently in Preserving and protecting neighborhoods. I will make sure that the community has a strong voice as to how they would like a new project be constructed where they live and play. When developing a neighborhood you need to make sure that there are enough sidewalks and crosswalks for kids, seniors, and the handicapped. There should be sufficient street lights, traffic lights, stop signs, and speed limit signs posted. Parks, recreational areas, and schools for our youths should be in walking distance. These are some of the major concerns in neighborhood development that need to be addressed. The Master Plan needs to be protected and neighborhood input needs to be heard and considered in any zone changes. All neighborhoods need to be notified of any proposed changes months in advance with personal notification to the effected neighbors and press releases to the media. We need our roadways and our shopping centers built, while we grow our residential infrastructure. We do not need growth to over populated our roadways. We need our roadways built to accommodate our growing community, while we grow. We need our sewer system and flood control system in working order, our rural neighborhoods should not suffer, no homes should be flooded. We need to adopt a policy that would insure our community from a flood free neighborhood. I believe Developers should work with neighbors to ensure that we have a win, win situation. The ineffective neighbors that has an issue with a development should have a strong voice in their community. The developers should listen to the neighbors an agree to a program that would be beneficial to both the Neighbors and the Developers. I would like to be the eyes, ears of reason and be a bridge between the two.

Veterans: There is not one veteran in county or city government and if so it is not indicated on their biography. We need more opportunities for veteran's, example: medical, transportation, homelessness, physically handicapped, mental illness, and unemployment.  I will help focus our Veterans to participate in our government political system. Our Military helps foreign countries develop a democratic government and they are not as proactive in our government as they can be. We need more Veterans involved in our political system and in the elected process. If we can fight for our country and die for our country, we should be more involved in the way our country operates. Our Reservists should not have their families in a financial bind when they are called upon to defend our country. We need a policy or funds in place that will not put our Reservist and their families in a financial bind when called to active duty.

Water Shortage: We need to pay more attention to the water shortage if we want to continue to exist in Southern Nevada.  These are some examples: Conservation and Replenishing of our Water Storage Facilities and having stricter guidelines in the preventing of contamination with regard to our ground water. We need more Water Smart Homes these homes are expected to save this community 75,000 gallons per year than most other homes. We need older homes retrofitted with water saving items. We need to encourage our community to use Water Smart Landscaping programs, which pays our residents and business owners to replace grass with desert landscaping. This is not just a County or City problem, this is a Southern Nevada problem. I will work hard to ensure our community adopt a water conservation program that will not stop at the waist side.

Education:  Keeping our children in school, maintain a lower level of dropouts and a higher level of graduates.  Making children go to school and keeping them out of negative affiliations. We need to set a higher standard for our future.  I will work diligently with the Parents Teachers Associations (PTA) addressing issues of concern in educating our future. To insure that our children has the best education possible.

These are just four of the hurrah of concerns in Southern Nevada.

Voting: Most of the community is unaware of the influence of a City Council. A City Council decision is immediate. In the 2001 election for Ward 6 there were about 38,479 registered voters and only 5,338 people voted.
